The quiet time recently has gotten particularly unquiet Cody Latimer Jersey , when it comes to allegations of off-field misconduct.
According to News4Jax.com, Jaguars defensive tackle Marcell Dareus has been sued for sexual assault, and for exposing the unnamed plaintiff to a sexually-transmitted disease.
The lawsuit claims that Dareus had sex with the plaintiff “while she was unconscious and therefore without her consent Justin Houston Jersey ,” and that in a later consensual encounter, Dareus allegedly failed to disclose that he has herpes.
The alleged incidents occurred in Houston in early April. It’s unclear whether a criminal complaint has been filed. Dareus is subject to NFL scrutiny under the Personal Conduct Policy regardless of whether criminal charges are pursued.
Free agent cornerback Bashaud Breeland has been a busy man this week as he’s spent time with four different teams and he may have more stops in the future.
Breeland spent time with the Raiders, Chiefs and Colts and told Josina Anderson of ESPN that he is in Cleveland to meet with the Browns on Friday. He also said that he has plans to move on to a visit with the Ravens Jahleel Addae Jersey , who Anderson reports are “getting more aggressive” in their pursuit of the former Washington corner.
Anderson also reports that the Jets have expressed interest in Breeland’s services, although no visit is currently scheduled.
Breeland agreed to a contract with the Panthers early in free agency, but it fell apart when he failed a physical due to an infected cut on his foot that required a skin graft. Breeland was out of the loop while he recovered Reggie Nelson Jersey , but he’s finding a busy market now that he’s healthy again.

Pink is heading to the Super Bowl to sing the national anthem.
The NFL announced Monday that the pop star will perform ”The Star-Spangled Banner” before the game on Feb. 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Justin Timberlake is set to headline the halftime show. The Super Bowl will air live on NBC.
Pink released her seventh studio album Mike Remmers Jersey , ”Beautiful Trauma,” in October. Its lead single Justin Houston Jersey , ”What About Us,” is nominated for a Grammy this month.

Teenager AJ Hurt closed out the U.S. Alpine championships by winning the giant slalom for her second title in a week’s span.
Hurt finished the two runs in a combined time of 2 minutes, 13.28 seconds on Monday. American teammate Foreste Peterson and Croatia’s Andrea Komsic tied for second and were 1.51 seconds behind Hurt’s winning time.
The 17-year-old Hurt won the Alpine combined last Wednesday and finished second in the super-G two days later.
Hurt had a big season in which she had six top-three finishes on the NorAm level Adam Joseph Duhe Jersey , including two wins. The ski racer from the Squaw Valley area in California also made her World Cup debut last November in Killington, Vermont.

Heading back to Philadelphia down 2-0 to the Boston Celtics Michael Thomas Jersey , the suddenly cold 76ers have some quick thinking to do in order to right the ship.
After winning 16 straight to close the regular season and finishing off the Miami Heat in five games in the first round, the 76ers now head back to face Boston at the Wells Fargo Center for their 5 p.m. matchup on Saturday with their first two-game losing streak since late February.
Boston clipped the once-surging 76ers in Game 2 with a huge surge of their own, coming back from a 22-point deficit to win on Boston on Thursday, 108-103. 76ers head coach Brett Brown drew criticism for his handling of Boston’s big run. Down 48-26 early in the second quarter, Boston eventually cut the lead to five at the half and took control with a 28-19 third quarter, and Brown chose not to call timeouts with his team bleeding.
“We have the league’s No. 1-rated starting five, is a fact,” he said. “Those five guys have shown great maturity, they have shown they can sustain different types of runs and still hold the fort. There were a few times (when he thought about calling a timeout). I mentioned there was one with (Terry) Rozier with his Euro-step that as I watched in the light of day Jeremy Kerley Jersey , that was a moment you could have done it.”
As much criticism as Brown is facing, rookie point guard Ben Simmons might be facing the steepest uphill battle heading into Saturday’s matchup.
Simmons had arguably his worst game as a pro, scoring one point on 0-for-4 shooting with five rebounds and seven assists. What’s worse: His negative-23 plus/minus ratio.
Rozier and backcourt mate Marcus Smart, meanwhile, combined for 39 points, 12 assists and 12 rebounds, and Boston got a big 13 points out of Jaylen Brown off the bench.
“I think the Celtics defensive intensity went to a higher level,” Brown said. “I think somewhere at the five-minute mark and we brought Joel (Embiid) and JJ (Redick) back into the game in the second period. We give them credit. They went on a little run and then they went on another run I think at two minutes left.”
Unlike the 76ers, who closed out the regular season with a bang Patrick Mahomes II Jersey , the Celtics were written off for much of the latter part of the schedule, after losing Kyrie Irving for the season and dropping four of six to close out the year. The Celtics’ seven-game series with Milwaukee in the first round did little to ease the chirping outside of Boston, especially with Philadelphia so hot.
But Brad Stevens’ strategy of resting his starters down the stretch might be paying dividends, as Al Horford and Rozier are averaging 35 or more minutes this series.
“Everyone feels good enough to play high minutes, which is why the last four games of the regular season were done the way we did,” said Stevens. “I think we had a plan of attack throughout the regular season based on each individual. Obviously we chose some times to rest guys, but not that many, but more so manage it throughout the games. We felt like we were a deep team.”
For both teams, Saturday’s matchup will be a study in short memories.
For the Celtics DeAndre Washington Jersey , they must erase in their minds the 22-point deficit they dug themselves into on Thursday.
For Philadelphia, the bad taste of a squandered double-digit lead must be forgotten. But not, Brown hopes, the lessons they learned.
Rapper Meek Mill said Wednesday that now that he’s out of prison, a lot of people facing similar battles with the criminal justice system are depending on him.
”I got a lot of responsibility,” he said in an interview with Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News.
He said the men counting on him are ”going through the same thing I’m going through.”
The Philadelphia-born rapper rang a replica Liberty Bell at center court of the Philadelphia 76ers‘ first-round clinching playoff game Tuesday less than two hours after being freed on bail while he appeals decade-old gun and drug convictions.
He was released after the state Supreme Court directed a Philadelphia judge who had jailed him to immediately issue an order letting him out.
Asked if he felt free, Mill told Holt: ”I ain’t feel free since I caught this case at age of 19 – I’m 30 now.”
Mill had been sentenced in November to two to four years behind bars for probation violations, setting off an all-out battle by a team of lawyers and public relations consultants to get him released on bail. They fiercely criticized the judge as a stream of high-powered figures and celebrities visited Mill in jail in the weeks and days before the Supreme Court ruling.
”Although I’m blessed to have the resources to fight this unjust situation, I understand that many people of color across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues Tyeler Davison Jersey ,” Mill said in a statement shortly before his release.
He said he planned to focus on getting his convictions overturned, and that he looks forward to resuming his music career.
The ruling came after prosecutors said they agreed with his lawyers that he should get a new trial because of questions raised about the arresting officer. The now-retired officer was among a list of police officers the prosecutor’s office has sought to keep off the witness stand in cases across the city because of credibility questions.
The district attorney’s office has not said whether they would seek to retry him if the old convictions are thrown out. But it noted that just last week, prosecutors agreed not to further prosecute three defendants whose cases were tossed because of doubts about the credibility of the arresting narcotics agent, the same officer who had arrested Mill.
Judge Genece Brinkley, who sent Mill to prison and had refused to release him on bail until the Supreme Court ruling, was accused by the defense of waging a vendetta against the rapper. She defended herself, saying she had acted ”impartially and without prejudice” in all proceedings since 2008.

The first thing Andrew Luck noticed about rookie guard Quenton Nelson was his back.
He calls it the biggest he’s ever seen. And he’s not the only guy doing double-takes of his new Joe Williams Jersey , massive personal protector.
Veteran guard Matt Slauson talks about Nelson’s expansive shoulders and enormous chest. Longtime left tackle Anthony Castonzo dubbed Nelson an immovable refrigerator on reporting day.
Regardless of the description, they seem apt for the newest addition to another revamped Indianapolis Colts offensive line.
”At guard, you want one of those people that if he’s walking down the street and someone comes and runs at him full speed, that person is going to get knocked out,” Castonzo said. ”He’s got that ability that when people run into him, they move, and he doesn’t.”
The Colts have spent years searching for someone with Nelson’s punch.
Andrew Luck took more than 400 hits from 2012-16, the highest total among quarterbacks in the league, and has been sacked an astounding 156 times in 70 career starts.
All those shots finally caught up with Luck. He missed nine games with assorted injuries in 2015 Kerry Wynn Jersey , made 15 starts in 2016 despite playing through shoulder pain and missed all of last season to rehab from surgery for a partially torn labrum in his throwing shoulder.
If it wasn’t obvious Indy needed to invest in protecting Luck after he signed a $140 million contract extension in 2016, three consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance made the next step clear.
So the Colts went big.
They selected the 6-foot-6, 330-pound Notre Dame linemen No. 6 overall in April’s draft – the first guard selected that high in more than two decades.
He has not disappointed at training camp. Nelson has already shown c he’s capable of stoning more experienced defensive linemen, using his flexibility and balance to keep his body in front of pass rushers and flicking away opponents with a quick swipe of his strong hands.
”There’s a reason an offensive guard was picked sixth overall,” said Jack Mewhort, the Colts’ former starter and a second-round pick in 2014. ”Obviously, we haven’t played the game yet, but from everything I’ve seen, he’s lived up to it so far. He’s the man.”
The first real test comes Aug. 9 at Seattle. But Colts fans got a glimpse of what to expect when the Colts put on full pads for the first time last weekend.
In Saturday’s one-on-one drills Craig Robertson Jersey , Nelson managed to recover from the initial punch of a 305-pound defensive tackle then stood his ground and drove the defender backward.
General manager Chris Ballard and coach Frank Reich expected nothing less after watching his college tape and hearing him explain his goal would be breaking the will of an opponent.
”He just brings a lot of power, but then you’ve also got his young, bulldog tenacity that is a lot of fun and fun to watch,” said Slauson, now in his 10th NFL season. ”I don’t have a lot of the athletic tools he has, but I consider myself a big-bodied guy and I like to bring kind of a nastiness myself. What I am going to try and do with him is help him grow in the game as fast as he can.”
Nelson and rookie guard Braden Smith, a second-round pick, could change the whole complexion of the franchise.
With Luck signed through 2021 and center Ryan Kelly, a first-round pick in 2016 Malcolm Smith Jersey , coming back from an injury-plagued second season, Nelson and Smith could help the Colts plug what has been a leaky interior line.
”Ryan has been a big help for me,” Nelson said. ”He’s the smartest guy in the room. He knows all of the assignments. He’s been a huge help for me on and off the field.”
Instead, Nelson lets his play, intensity and size speak for themselves.
”He did approach me in the hallway (Saturday) and I was a little shocked because it was the first day in pads,” Reich said, laughing through his answer. ”I won’t get into the details of what he was saying exactly, but let’s just say he was excited to be in pads.”
Notes: Tuesday’s practice was moved inside because of rain, but Reich said he thought the Colts reacted with energy and emotion. Longtime center Jeff Saturday attended the workout. … Austin Howard Mike Remmers Jersey , who should battle for the starting right tackle job, was activated from the nonfootball injury list Tuesday. Reich said Castonzo (hamstring) and starting safety Clayton Geathers (offseason knee surgery) were ”real close” to being activated from the physically unable to perform list ”very soon.” … Linebacker Anthony Walker is expected to miss several weeks after injuring his groin during Sunday night’s practice.
Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly has been released from a New York City hospital a day after having surgery to prepare for permanent dentures to be inserted into his reconstructed upper jaw.
Mount Sinai West head and neck surgeon Mark Urken said the procedure went well, in a statement released by the hospital on Friday.
Kelly's wife, Jill, says her husband is experiencing some swelling and adds: "Everything is moving forward as planned."
The procedure involved doctors adding tissue into the upper portion of his mouth. Kelly is scheduled to have permanent dentures inserted during a follow-up procedure in September.
Kelly has been unable to eat solid foods since March, when he had surgery to have cancer removed from his jaw after tests revealed a recurrence. The 58-year-old Kelly was initially diagnosed five years ago with oral cancer, and had been cancer free since September 2014.

FLOWERY BRANCH Aaron Burbridge Jersey , Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons will be searching for the final piece of the offensive line charged with protecting Matt Ryan when they open their preseason schedule at the New York Jets.
Right guard is the only position on the line without a set starter, and that will be a key competition coach Dan Quinn will be watching closely in Friday night’s game.
Decisions also have to be made at fullback and defensive end.
Protecting Ryan, the 2016 NFL MVP with a new five-year contract extension that could be worth as much as $150 million, makes finding the best starting right guard a priority.
Wes Schweitzer was listed ahead of Brandon Fusco, perhaps Atlanta’s top free-agent acquisition this offseason, at right guard on the team’s first depth chart released this week. The two have rotated with the first-team offense during training camp.
Schweitzer’s expected start against the Jets may be based on his 16 starts with Atlanta last season.
Fusco started all 16 games for San Francisco last season.
“I just want to build continuity with everyone, get comfortable with everyone and with this offense,” Fusco said following Wednesday’s practice.
“I miss the game-day feeling and will be excited when I’m out there. Hopefully it’s enough to prove to them I can be the starter of this team at right guard and help this team win.”
Schweitzer said this has been “the best camp I’ve ever had Garry Gilliam Jersey , definitely the best offensive camp I’ve ever been a part of. I feel we’re really clicking right now and really pushing for it. It’s just been a really good camp.”
Ricky Ortiz is expected to start ahead of Luke McNitt at fullback. The remaining competitions on offense are for backup roles, including a third running back behind Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. Candidates include rookie Ito Smith and Terrence Magee.
Coach Dan Quinn also is looking at tight ends competing behind projected starter Austin Hooper. Eric Saubert, a fifth-round pick in 2017 who had no catches as a rookie, has impressed the coach in camp.
“He’s somebody who certainly has our attention at tight end,” Quinn said Wednesday.
“He’s really turning into the pass-catching tight end that I’d hoped we would see. … He’s long, he’s fast and I now see the athlete.”
Quinn said Saubert (6-5, 253) is more confident in his second season. He said Saubert pressed as a rookie and “wasn’t allowing himself to be the athlete that he is.”
The Falcons did not re-sign tight end Levine Toilolo, who is now with Detroit. Veteran Logan Paulsen is best known for his blocking skills. That leaves an opening for Saubert to emerge as another target for quarterback Matt Ryan.
Saubert must do more than show his skills as a receiver. All players competing for backup spots Jarvis Jenkins Jersey , including at running back and tight end, must prove they can contribute on special teams.
Second-year defensive end Takkarist McKinley , trying to earn a starting role, is expected to play after being limited for about a week with a bruised right shoulder. McKinley returned for full participation on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“He was good,” Quinn said. “What I was looking for, like with any guy, was there any hesitancy? He had none. So he responded the right way and was chomping at the bit to get back.”
NOTES: LG Andy Levitre and his wife, Katie Brandon Parker Jersey , who carried pink and blue balloons, had a unique baby gender reveal following practice. With players standing around the couple, Levitre held a sign that said “A Gatorade shower will let us see.” Other offensive linemen poured two coolers filled with the blue sports drink over Levitre’s head — so he and his wife are expecting a boy. Players then cheered. … Quinn confirmed PK Matt Bryant (undisclosed injury) and OT Ty Sambrailo (right hand) will not play against the Jets. “We’ll get them back into the fold next week,” Quinn said.
The Cleveland Browns traded tight end Randall Telfer to the Kansas City Chiefs for defensive end Dadi Nicolas.
A sixth-round pick in 2015, Telfer is the sixth veteran dealt by new Browns general manager John Dorsey, who continues to remold a team that has just one victory over the past two seasons.
Telfer started 19 games for Cleveland and was used primarily as a blocker. He caught five passes for 40 yards. After he was selected in 2015, Telfer sat out his rookie season while recovering from a foot injury.
Nicolas has history with Dorsey, who was Kansas City’s GM from 2013-16. He selected the 6-foot-3 Jonathan Cooper Jersey , 235-pound Nicolas in the 2016 sixth round.
The 25-year-old Nicolas appeared in 11 games as a rookie, but injured his knee in the regular-season finale and sat out 2017.
Since joining the Browns in December, Dorsey has traded quarterbacks DeShone Kizer, Kevin Hogan and Cody Kessler, cornerback Jason McCourty and defensive tackle Danny Shelton.
The Browns also claimed linebacker Jermaine Grace off waivers from Indianapolis on Wednesday. The 6-1, 225-pounder signed with Atlanta last year as an undrafted free agent.
He appeared in five games on special teams with the Falcons and six with the Colts.

Visceral blowback to the NFL’s updated rule that players can’t lead with their helmets to make contact is straight out of tough-guy football 101. Hard-hitting defensive backs say the league is destroying the physical element of the game or lament that it’s changing the sport entirely.
“Do they want us to play flag football?” Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard said. “It’s crazy.”
Beyond the criticism from old-school players bristling at another rule change or point of emphasis is legitimate confusion as to how the enhanced regulations will actually be enforced. No longer can a player initiate contact with his head anywhere on an opponent’s body Latavius Murray Jersey , penalized 15 yards or possibly by ejection in egregious cases, and players and coaches — offensive guys, too — are bracing for how it will be applied.
“You just hope it’s not called as frequently, because if they are going to call it on every single offensive and defensive lineman, the game is going to be played at a snail’s pace,” 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman said. “It seems like they are neglecting the impact it is going to have on the game, and I don’t think they fully understand the scope and how huge it will be.”
Contact to a player’s head and neck has been a penalty for some time now, but this rule was ramped up to take it a step further. A ball carrier or an offensive lineman can’t lower his head into a defender, and a defensive player can’t make any part of his helmet the primary point of contact when attempting to tackle.
It’s similar to the NCAA rule that has been in place since 2013, though at the college level, “targeting” carries an automatic ejection, reviewable by replay. The league estimated that just two plays last season would’ve led to an ejection under the new rule that’s forcing players to adjust their approaches.
“It’s really hard to change the way you’ve been playing after 20 years,” Cowboys safety Jeff Heath said. “You’re not always thinking about where you’re hitting somebody. You’re just trying to get them down. As soon as you start thinking, and second-guessing yourself, I think that’s when trouble happens. Hopefully it does the job in keeping players safe but doesn’t result in a lot of ejections.”
As the NFL alters this rule and another to kickoffs in the name of safety, some players are willing to accept the reasons for changes. Denver’s three-time All-Pro linebacker Von Miller said, “They’ve put in rules to take care of all the players, as well, so I’m good with all the rule changes.”
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he used to fight the evolution of football “like an old dog Kai Forbath Jersey ,” but has come to accept changes in the name of doing the right thing for players. He expects there to be a wide application of the enhanced helmet rule and doesn’t consider it such a bad thing.
“I think it’s across the board because it can happen multiple times on any play, where guys use the top of their helmet,” Carroll said. “We’re just getting out of it. It’s really about going back to really good shoulder-leverage play.”
That’s how Josh Norman feels about it. The Washington Redskins cornerback knows he has accidentally made helmet contact with opponents, but as a player not known for those plays considers this a reminder about sound fundamentals.
“Head up, bowed neck, tackle with your facemask,” Norman said. “It’s not with the crown of your head. Obviously injuries come. People get paralyzed like that. Nobody should play like that.”
To get the message across, coaches Anthony Lynn of the Chargers, Doug Marrone of the Jaguars, Dan Quinn of the Falcons, Mike Vrabel of the Titans and Todd Bowles of the Jets each narrated a clip-by-clip video illustrating how the enhanced rule affects a different position group: running backs , offensive linemen , defensive linemen , linebackers and defensive backs . Hall of Fame running back Curtis Martin and linebackers Willie Lanier , also a Hall of Famer, and Willie McGinest taped minute-long videos explaining to players the importance of stance posture and technique to avoid unnecessary head contact.
In the first test of the heightened emphasis on head contact, Baltimore linebackers Patrick Onwuasor and Kamalei Correa were each flagged for 15-yard penalties in the Hall of Fame game that opened the preseason. Watching that gave Denver coach Vance Joseph a glimpse of what effect the helmet rule will have, pointing out it’s not just on players to adjust.
“Coaching that part, in my opinion Colton Schmidt Jersey , is going to be the tough part — not the defenders,” Joseph said. “That’s been taught and that’s been coached for a long time, with the offensive guys using their stiff arm and putting the ball in the proper hand, using their shoulders versus their head. It’s going to take teaching.”
It’s going to take some trial and error in games for players and officials to realize how it will actually be called. Veteran Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander figures it could happen somewhere on the field on any play, so he and his teammates will try to toe the line between watching out for it and not thinking so much that it proves costly.
“You can’t really change your mindset,” Buffalo safety Micah Hyde said. “That’s when you start playing passive, and you start giving up stuff. I don’t know, it’s kind of hard to explain, it’s kind of when your ankle’s hurt, you tape it, you’re thinking about it, and then you might hurt something else. It’s the same along those lines, you ca Former University of Tennessee star linebacker A.J. Johnson is getting a shot in the NFL with the Denver Broncos less than a month after he was acquitted along with a college teammate of aggravated rape charges.
After his first practice as a pro Monday, Johnson said, "It's a blessing to be a part of a team, I'm excited to get out here, start working out and start working my tail off."
He said he never doubted he'd see this day .
"No, never a time. I had faith. I trusted in God," he said. "I kept working and being determined and kept pushing. I knew it was going to come."
Johnson said the Broncos reached out to him Saturday.
Coach Vance Joseph said he wasn't sure what to expect from Johnson following such a long layoff from football.
"Well Adarius Glanton Jersey , we'll see. It's been three years since he's actually played football. At that time, three years ago, he was a serious prospect," Joseph said. "He's got great size, he can run, he's a very, very intelligent player. So, we'll see."
Johnson and Michael Williams were acquitted of all counts July 27. They were indicted in February 2015 after a woman said both men raped her during a party at Johnson's apartment in the early morning hours of Nov. 16, 2014. Johnson and Williams were suspended from the team less than 48 hours after the party and never played for Tennessee again.
While Williams was a part-time starter in the secondary, Johnson was a four-year starter and a pro prospect whose invitation to the 2015 NFL combine was rescinded after charges were filed.
"A.J. hasn't had the opportunity to play football for the last three years while resolving a serious legal matter," general manager John Elway said in a statement Monday. "We've had several conversations with him since he's been cleared and have become very familiar with his background and character. Our organization is confident A.J. is ready to move forward and resume his playing career."
Joseph said the Broncos did their due diligence before signing Johnson.
"We talked to all of his coaches. My cousin actually coached him at Tennessee. Zach (Azzanni, Denver's new wide receivers coach) had him at Tennessee. Everyone spoke highly about the guy, so we'll see. Again, he wants to play football, he's been training for two years to play football. He's been here for four hours, so we'll see how he fits in."
To make room for Johnson, the Broncos released linebacker Stansly Maponga.
They also signed safety Shamarko Thomas after losing safety Jamal Carter (torn hamstring) for the season Saturday night in their preseason opener. Joseph said Carter needs surgery and will go on IR.
Thomas was released by the Colts on Saturday, less than 48 hours after he was ejected from a preseason game against Seattle for an illegal helmet hit.
Thomas said Colts coach Frank Reich told him his release wasn't over that hit, however.
"It's all in God's plan. The ejection Kerry Wynn Jersey , I leaned with my helmet, that's what they say. I'm just happy to be here and be a Bronco," Thomas said.
Now a 26-year-old rookie, Johnson was a three-time All-SEC selection at Tennessee from 2011-14. He was a four-year starter in Knoxville whose 425 tackles ran second among any Volunteer since the school started keeping track of the statistic in 1970.
In 46 career games at Tennessee, he had 30? tackles for loss, three sacks, an interception, 11 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He posted double digits in tackles 23 times.
Prosecutors painted Johnson and Williams as entitled athletes who weren't used to being told no. Defense attorneys argued that the woman had sex with both men at the same time and then lied, claiming she had been raped.
After a jury of seven women and five men found Johnson and Williams not guilty, Johnson said, "I just knew God was going to take care of it."
The Broncos listed the 6-foot-2 Johnson at 243 pounds, but he said at his trial last month that he weighs 255 as he sought to revive his dream of playing in the NFL.
Johnson said he wasn't bitter over his long-delayed debut.
"No, I'm not a bitter guy. I wake up happy every day. I'm blessed, I'm glad to be out here," he said. "I haven't had this many cameras in my face in a long time. But no, I have no bitterness about me."

The Bills wide receiver corps one of the league’s thinner ones heading into training camp Hau'oli Kikaha Jersey , which would seem to bode well for 2017 second-round pick Zay Jones‘ chances of seeing a lot of playing time once September rolls around.
While that may be the case, General Manager Brandon Beane made it clear last week that Jones won’t be guaranteed anything this season. He had a quiet rookie season while dealing with a shoulder injury and missed offseason work after knee surgery, which Beane says leaves him with with work to do this summer.
“He’s not just going to necessarily go right to the top of the line,” Beane said during an appearance on WGR 550 Adam Thielen Jersey , via NewYorkUpstate.com. “He’ll have to earn his way. Part of that will just be just getting his feel. He’s only played with Nathan Peterman. He has not got to play with Josh Allen or AJ [McCarron] yet. So that bond there will just have to form.”
Kelvin Benjamin is the top receiver in Buffalo with Andre Holmes, Jeremy Kerley and Brandon Reilly among the other non-Jones options. It’s an underwhelming list that would look a lot better if Jones can make good on the potential the Bills saw when he was at East Carolina.
The Detroit Lions added depth in the backfield, signing LeGarrette Blount and re-signing Zach Zenner.
Detroit signed both players Friday to compete with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick for carries this year.
Blount, an unrestricted free agent Roger Craig Jersey , ran for a team-high 766 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season last year in Philadelphia and scored three touchdowns during the Eagles' Super Bowl-winning run. He previously played for the New England Patriots, who used to employ Detroit general manager Bob Quin and coach Matt Patricia.
Blount, who has also played for Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, has run for 5 Dwayne Harris Jersey ,888 yards and 51 touchdowns in his career along with catching 54 passes for 387 yards and two scores.
Zenner, who was a restricted free agent this offseason, played in eight games last season and ran for 26 yards and a TD. Over his three-year career with the Lions, Zenner has 119 carries for 420 yards and five touchdowns along with 20 receptions for 207 yards.

Oakland traded Khalil Mack to Chicago on Saturday Mason Crosby Jersey , and the Bears promptly made Mack the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. That’s something the Raiders weren’t going to do.
Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said today that the Raiders did make Mack an offer, but it was not even in the same ballpark as the enormous deal he signed with the Bears.
?? don?? believe we were anywhere close to where the Bears were,” Gruden said. “He got a great contract from the Bears. A great contract. You know, $90 million guaranteed is an astronomical number, it’s phenomenal for the players, great for him obviously. But that was something we could not do.”
Gruden didn’t think it was realistic to make Mack the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL after paying quarterback Derek Carr so much.
“You’ve got to field a 53-man roster and there are some implications of having two players making that much Ed Dickson Jersey ,” Gruden said.
Gruden said getting the Bears’ 2019 and 2020 first-round draft picks could be huge for the Raiders in the future.
“Two first-round draft choices is a lot of compensation that we have to do something with,” Gruden said.
If Gruden doesn’t do something with those picks, his trade will be second-guessed forever.
Stephen Curry came off the bench to score 28 points in a triumphant return from a knee injury and nearly six weeks off, and the Golden State Warriors held off Anthony Davis and the pesky New Orleans Pelicans for a 121-116 win Tuesday night to go ahead 2-0 in the Western Conference semifinals.
Kevin Durant scored 29 points with a huge 3-pointer with 3:10 to play, to go with seven assists and six rebounds in Golden State’s franchise-record 14th consecutive postseason victory at Oracle Arena. Draymond Green contributed 20 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds while battling Davis on both ends all night.
Davis finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds Kelechi Osemele Jersey , and Jrue Holiday had 24 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Pelicans, who also got 22 points and 12 assists from Rajon Rondo.
Andre Iguodala converted a snazzy three-point play with 6:41 left when he flipped the ball up and it came back down and through the net as he was fouled by Rondo, then Golden State pulled away.

Kyle Korver scored 19 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime after Cleveland never led in regulation. Tristan Thompson had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who have eliminated Toronto in each of the past two postseasons.
Toronto’s Fred VanVleet missed a 3-pointer with 3.4 seconds to go in overtime that could have won it for the Raptors, who couldn’t hold on to a 14-point, first-quarter lead.
Jonas Valanciunas had 21 points and 21 rebounds, Kyle Lowry had 18 points and 10 assists Dion Jordan Jersey , and DeMar DeRozan scored 22 points for the Raptors, who host Game 2 on Thursday night.

Von Miller is preparing to make his preseason debut this weekend against the Chicago Bears.
Of course Cameron Wake Jersey , the star linebacker was all set to play last weekend against Minnesota when he said "the call came from upstairs" that he'd be held out.
Coach Vance Joseph had insisted all week that Miller would play in the preseason opener, explaining, "he's had a great camp and we have no reason not to play Von. Von is in good health and good spirits, so why not?"
Because he could get hurt in a meaningless game and put a damper on their 2018 season, which apparently was the reason general manager John Elway nixed the notion of Miller playing against the Vikings.
So, Miller was helpless to keep Kirk Cousins from driving 75 yards for an opening touchdown in the Vikings' 42-28 win .
After the game, Joseph said, "Obviously, Von is valuable to our football team. He's a guy who we can't lose, so we didn't play him, simple as that."
Because the call was made so late Corey Linsley Jersey , Miller was already taped up and didn't get a chance to work out with strength coach Loren Landow before the game like other players who weren't going to play.
"I wouldn't say that I was upset. I was just ready to play," Miller said Wednesday after the Bears-Broncos joint practice . "I hadn't played since the Pro Bowl. ... So, I was pretty excited to play. I was ready to go out there with my brothers."
Miller said he was pumping up first-round draft pick Bradley Chubb and other rookies only to learn he would be rooting them on instead of leading the way.
"Me and Chubb, we talked about sacks before the game," Miller said. "With the rookies, it's a hard deal to get the rookies right. So, I was getting Chubb right and the other guys right and I'm getting ready to go out there on the field and they said I wasn't going to play."
Defensive coordinator Joe Woods said he expects Miller to play Saturday night, but when asked what he thought, Miller said, "I don't know."
Either way, it won't change his preparation.
"I just approach it the same way every week Steve Young Jersey ," Miller said. "I just go into it like I'm going to play."
The Broncos usually throttle back Miller in practice because, in the words of his coach, he can "wreck practice" he's so good.
That's not a concern when he's facing another team like the Bears, though.
"No, I'm definitely trying to wreck it," Miller said with a laugh.
Bears coach Matt Nagy said facing Miller for two days of joint practices ??and maybe again Saturday night ??can only help his young team.
"What a great challenge for our offensive linemen, to be tested by some of the best in the league," Nagy said.
Unlike past years when the Broncos got into scuffles during joint practices, things didn't get too chippy with the Bears.
"We just want to come out here and get better," Miller said. "Both organizations, we didn't have the type of season that we (wanted to) last year. So A.J. Derby Jersey , I think coming out here and fighting each other and making it into a Battle Royale is the last thing on both teams' minds."
CAMP SCARE: The Broncos got a scare when rookie receiver and training camp sensation Courtland Sutton was slow getting up after diving for a pass and then went to the trainer's room. But Joseph said, "He's OK. It was a knee. But he's fine. Yep, good news there."
Also, cornerback Chris Harris Jr. (strained oblique) and edge rusher Shaq Barrett (minor hamstring pull) sat out practice in hopes of getting better by game night, Joseph said.
HIDEOUS HAIRCUTS : Miller, who said his job description is sacking quarterbacks and telling jokes, is known as the Broncos' biggest prankster. But he said he had nothing to do with the hideous haircuts the veterans gave the rookies this week.
"I like to mess with the rookies, of course, but haircuts are not my thing," Miller said.
Notes: WR Carlos Henderson, who was placed on the Broncos' reserve/did not report list Dont'a Hightower Jersey , has been suspended without pay by the NFL for the season opener over his offseason arrest for marijuana possession in Louisiana.
The Buccaneers drafted Jameis Winston to be the face of the franchise when they used the first overall pick on him in 2015. But the team’s marketing efforts for 2018 don’t include the quarterback.
Winston is conspicuously absent in the four short promotional videos the Bucs released bearing a new “Wreck Havoc” theme, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The team has no plans to release any other videos before the season, according to Auman.
Gerald McCoy, Mike Evans and Kwon Alexander are among the players featured by the Bucs.
“I’ve been in this league for nine years, and people still try to doubt me,” defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said in a video promoted on the team’s Twitter account Wednesday. “He’s overhyped. He’s too nice. He’s not serious. . . . Don’t make me laugh.”
A giant mural of Winston continues to hang outside Raymond James Stadium, but a local Ford dealer did replace a billboard featuring Winston alongside former Rays star Evan Longoria, per Auman.
Winston, of course, will serve a three-game suspension to start the season.

The Columbus Blue Jackets re-signed forward Boone Jenner to a four-year Sam Mills Jersey , $15 million contract, locking up a player who has been a stalwart presence in the team’s emergence as a playoff contender.
The Blue Jackets announced the deal on Thursday. The contract pays the 25-year-old Jenner $3.75 million annually through the 2021-22 season, according to a person with direct knowledge of the contract who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Blue Jackets didn’t reveal the value of the deal.
Jenner was a restricted free agent who made $2.9 million in 2017-18, a season in which he missed all of training camp and the first seven games of the season with a back injury.
Although his numbers have fallen off since he scored 30 goals in 2015-16, Jenner was an alternate captain and key contributor down the stretch last season, which ended in a first-round playoff loss to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals.
The native of Dorchester Rasheem Green Jersey , Ontario, said he was happy to get the four-year deal after starting his NHL career with the Blue Jackets. He’ll likely be the left wing on the second or third line.
”Being there for five years, I knew that’s where I wanted to be, especially with the team we’ve got and the way things are going and what we’re building,” he said. ”It’s something I’ve been a part of and want to continue to be a part of.”
He ended last season with 13 goals and tied his career high with 19 assists. He piled up 12 points in March and logged a goal and two assists in six playoff games.
”I think once things kind of settled down later toward the end of the year, I think I found my stride Brent Urban Jersey , and I was obviously happy with my play down the stretch,” he said.
Jenner, a second-round draft pick by Columbus in 2011, has 86 goals and 75 assists in 342 NHL games. His best season was 2015-16, when he scored 30 goals and had 19 assists.
”Boone Jenner has been an important player for the Columbus Blue Jackets with his work ethic, character and leadership on and off the ice Wil Lutz Jersey ,” general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. ”He is still a young player that is improving in all facets of the game, and we couldn’t be happier that he will continue to be a key contributor to our team in the years to come.”

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions bolstered their depth at linebacker by acquiring Eli Harold in a trade with San Francisco.
Detroit gave the 49ers a draft pick, which was not disclosed, in exchange for Harold on Thursday. The Lions made room for him by waiving defensive lineman JoJo Wicker.
Detroit lost Steve Longa, a backup linebacker and key player on special teams Chris Wormley Jersey , last week with a season-ending knee injury.
Harold started 24 games for San Francisco and played in 48 games over three seasons. He played in every game last season, starting 10 times, and had 34 tackles and two sacks.
San Francisco drafted the former Virginia standout in the third round in 2015. He has 84 tackles and five sacks in his career.

Gene Steratore Bo Jackson Jersey , the referee who worked the Super Bowl in February, is calling it a career.
NFL V.P. of officiating Al Riveron announced today that Steratore has decided to retire from the NFL.
Steratore has been an NFL official since 2003 and worked 12 playoff games, including Super Bowl LII. He may be best remembered for an odd moment last season when he pulled out an index card to determine whether a spotted football had reached the first down stick in a game between the Cowboys and Raiders. Raiders coach Jack Del Rio objected to Steratore’s demeanor, and the NFL said afterward that Steratore should have used his eyes, not an index card.
The NFL has seen a lot of turnover among its referees this offseason, with Jeff Triplette Justin Coleman Jersey , Ed Hochuli and Terry McAulay also retiring. Last year the NFL retained all 17 of its referees from the year before, but this year there will be a major change in the refereeing ranks.
Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said he’ll be ready for Saturday’s NFC divisional playoff game at Philadelphia after missing Tuesday’s practice for personal reasons.
Ryan was back with the team for Wednesday’s practice. He didn’t disclose details of his absence, but indicated he was attending to a family matter.
”I just want to thank everybody for their support and outreach. It means a lot to me,” Ryan said. ”I’ve always tried to keep my family life private and I hope you can respect that and I’d like to continue to do that moving forward.”
Ryan and his wife, Sarah, announced in November they expect to become first-time parents in April with twins.
Coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday there were ”no setbacks for him or for us” due to Ryan’s excused absence on Tuesday Bradley Pinion Jersey , when the game plan was installed.
”He is one of the best competitors and most professional ballplayers I’ve ever been around, so no adjustment for that,” Quinn said. ”We’re fortunate he’s back here today and back into it.”
Ryan attended Tuesday’s team meeting before missing practice.
”I was able to get the game plan and kind of get the information I needed yesterday,” Ryan said. ”I’ll be very well prepared for the game on Saturday.”
The Eagles (13-3) are the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Falcons (11-6) beat the Los Angeles Rams 26-13 in a wild-card game last week.
For Ryan, a native of Philadelphia, Saturday’s game is a homecoming.
”I’m used to it now Mike Evans Jersey ,” he said. ”… The one nice part is there will be a lot of familiar faces, friendly faces after the game, which is always nice.”
Ryan hasn’t missed a game since Week 15 of the 2009 season, so Tuesday’s practice without the 10-year veteran was unusual.
”It was different,” said center Alex Mack. ”He’s a very consistent part and staple of this team. I’m glad he’s back today and we’ll move forward.”
Veteran backup Matt Schaub took Ryan’s place in practice on Tuesday.
Ryan is trying to lead the Falcons to a repeat Super Bowl appearance after last year’s loss to New England.
Ryan was the NFL MVP in 2016, when he threw 38 touchdown passes with only seven interceptions. He has reached 4 Duane Brown Jersey ,000 yards passing for the seventh straight season, but he passed for only 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions in the regular season. He completed 21 of 30 passes for 218 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the win over the Rams.
NOTES: Quinn strongly denied speculation that offensive coordinator Steve Sarkasian might make a lateral move to Seattle to head the Seahawks’ offense. Sarkasian and Seattle coach Pete Carroll worked together at Southern Cal. ”Zero chance of that,” Quinn said. … For the second straight day, WR Julio Jones (ankle) did not participate in practice. It has not been unusual for Jones to miss practices early in the week this season but he has not missed a game. … RB Devonta Freeman (knee), LB LaRoy Reynolds (knee) and WR Mohamed Sanu (knee) were limited.

Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon will make $790 Doug Baldwin Jersey ,000 next season after signing with the club as an exclusive rights free agent.
Gordon returned to the Browns and played five games last season following an NFL suspension and a lengthy rehab stint. Gordon, 27, is expected to report for the team's offseason workout program Monday. He's eligible to be a restricted free agent in 2019.
Gordon has cost himself multi-million dollar contracts because of his addictions to drugs and alcohol. He led the league with 1,646 yards receiving in 2012 and was an All-Pro in 2013, but he's played just 10 games over the past four seasons.
The Browns are hoping Gordon can stay clean, contribute and pair with newly signed Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry, who signed a five-year, $75 million contract Friday.
After being re-instated last season, Gordon caught 18 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown.
The Atlanta Hawks draft room was split between Luka Doncic and Trae Young.
The Hawks ultimately chose Young because he brought the Hawks a first-round draft pick.
The Hawks added a new floor leader to their rebuilding effort by acquiring Young in Thursday night’s exchange of NBA draft picks with the Dallas Mavericks.
Atlanta drafted Doncic Mark Bavaro Jersey , the guard from Slovenia, with the No. 3 overall pick and then traded rights to Doncic to Dallas for rights to Young, who was the No. 5 selection, and a 2019 first-round pick.
For Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk, it was all about remaining loyal to goals of adding talent and adding assets .
”In all honesty, our group was really split between the two,” Schlenk said, adding the Hawks regarded the guards as ”the best two playmakers in the draft.”
”Luka is a heck of a player. We were happy with him. Trae is a heck of a player. Obviously we’re excited to have him. When the opportunity came to pick up a first-round pick from the Mavericks, it just kind of made sense to accomplish both goals with one move.”
The Hawks will have three first-round picks in 2019 Desmond Trufant Jersey , just as in this year’s draft.
Young is best known for his 3-point shooting. The Hawks selected Maryland’s Kevin Huerter, a shooting guard, at No. 19 overall. Atlanta’s third first-round pick was power forward Omari Spellman of Villanova, at No. 30 overall.
Atlanta traded its second-round pick, Kansas point guard Devonte Graham, to Charlotte for second-round selections in 2019 and 2023.
Schlenk focused on outside shooters in the draft.
Young led the nation with his averages of 27.4 points and 8.7 assists for Oklahoma. He is the first player to lead the nation in scoring and assists in the same season.
Huerter made 42 percent of his 3-point shots as a sophomore last season at Maryland while averaging 14.8 points per game.
Spellman (6-9, 255) was considered one of the best shooters among big men in the draft. He made 43 percent of his 3s last season while averaging 10.9 points as a freshman starter on Villanova’s national championship team.
Young worked out for the Hawks on June 12. He said the trade to Atlanta wasn’t a surprise.
”I got a feeling past few days that would happen, that was a possibility, but you never really know until your name is called Randy Moss Jersey ,” Young said in a telephone interview.
The 6-foot-2 Young scored at least 40 points in four games and tied a Division I record by recording 22 assists in a game.
Young’s deep 3-pointers earned him comparisons with Golden State’s Stephen Curry, but Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk said he was won over by Young’s floor leadership.
”We love his ability to pass the ball, to make other players better with his court vision,” said Schlenk, a former assistant GM with the Warriors. ”Obviously he gets a lot of notoriety for his long-range shooting, but I think his ability to pass the ball is what we really liked about him.”
Schlenk’s review impressed Young.
”It means a lot because a lot of people in my opinion are so focused on my ability to shoot, which is a really big thing, especially in the NBA, but my ability to pass I feel is really underrated Howie Long Jersey ,” Young said.
Hawks veteran point guard Dennis Schroder’s future in Atlanta is uncertain. Schlenk said Schroder and Young could play together.
This is not the first time the Hawks have quickly traded the No. 3 overall pick. In 2001, the Hawks made Pau Gasol the No. 3 overall pick and then traded his draft rights to the Memphis Grizzlies for Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
Doncic was Atlanta’s highest draft pick since 2007, when center Al Horford was the No. 3 pick. The trade for Young gives first-year coach Lloyd Pierce a new scoring weapon.
”Obviously his ability to shoot the ball in today’s NBA, the 3-point shot, is very important,” Schlenk said. ”What really separates him with his shooting is his ability to shoot off the dribble. You don’t see that in a lot of guys and he possesses that.”
The Hawks finished last in the Eastern Conference last season, when they began to rely heavily on young players. Forward-center John Collins showed promise as a rookie, and forward Taurean Prince is another young piece of the rebuilding effort. Veterans Kent Bazemore and Dwayne Dedmon are under contract for next season.

The 49ers have not have much luck with injuries at running back. That’s what got Alfred Morris onto their roster on Aug. 13 and what could have him lining up in the backfield with Jimmy Garoppolo in the season opener.
The 49ers fear running back Jerick McKinnon Adam Thielen Jersey , who had a calf strain in training camp, tore an anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday’s practice.
San Francisco has McKinnon, Morris, Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert at running back on the initial 53-player roster. Breida separated a shoulder during trainingi camp, which played a part in the 49ers signing Morris.
If McKinnon is out Kyle Lauletta Jersey , Morris is the likely starter, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Morris, 29, has plenty of starting experience. He started 64 games in Washington, with three consecutive 1 Eric Weddle Jersey ,000-yard seasons and a 751-yard season, and five games in Dallas during Ezekiel Elliott‘s suspension last season.
He had 89 yards on 19 carries in the preseason for the 49ers.
Free agent cornerback Bashaud Breeland hasn’t had a team to work out with all offseason, so he’s going to go see as many as he can to try to get caught up.
According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, Breeland has visits this week with the Colts and Browns, in addition to previously reported trips to see the Raiders and Chiefs. The Cardinals also had him scheduled for a visit earlier this offseason.
After a productive stint with Washington Justin Coleman Jersey , he signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Panthers early in free agency, only to fail his physical because of a cut on his leg that became infected and needed months to heal.
He’s a solid cover player when well, which indicates why so many teams are interested in him now, even though no one’s going to pay him what he’d have gotten in March.

As the 49ers commence their fifth season at Levi’s Stadium Kyle Rudolph Jersey , they’ll be paying more to use it.
Via SportsBusiness Daily, an arbitrator has ruled that the 49ers should pay $24.762 million per year in rent, an increase from the $24.5 million that the team had been paying. That’s $262,000 per year. On a 40-year lease, that’s more than $10 million.
The extra money won’t be used to build any type of roof or awning to protect fans from heat and intensity of the giant ball of burning gas some 93 million miles away. 49ers president Al Guido recently said that it’s simply “not possible” to put shade on the stadium, due to FAA regulations applicable to the nearby San Jose airport.
“What I can tell the fans is we’re committed to making their experience as best as it possibly can,” Guido said. “We understand there might be a game or two early in the season that might be warm. We cannot add shade. We cannot build a roof.”
The team routinely attributes images of largely-empty stands to the impact of the sun, which forces fans to seek relief in the concourse areas. Those images, to the extent that they’re truly due to the intensity of the thing up above and not the quality of the thing down below, apparently will continue, for the next 35 years or longer.
>The Buffalo Bills’ long-awaited playoff appearance might not have been so short-lived had their coaching staff played the percentages and not a hunch in their 10-3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. On first-and-goal from the Jaguars 1 Coby Fleener Jersey , coach Sean McDermott and offensive coordinator Rick Dennison elected to call a run-pass option instead of asking quarterback Tyrod Taylor to either run it in himself or hand it off to running back LeSean McCoy against one of the most vulnerable run defenses in the playoffs.“I want a running play,” McCoy said. “It was a play I was lobbying for the whole time and it didn’t work out …”Instead, Taylor lofted a fade pass toward the left corner of the end zone where Kelvin Benjamin was whistled for offensive pass interference on All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, pushing the Bills back 10 yards. The drive stalled from there and Stephen Haushka’s 31-yard field goal was all the Bills had to show for their 18-play, 71-yard drive that took 8:06, their only decent drive all game.McDermott also botched the end of the first half by calling pass plays on second-and-6 at his 14 (incomplete) and the next down (5-yard completion to Zay Jones in which he was pushed out of bounds).Instead of taking a knee and heading to the locker room with a 3-0 lead, the Bills gave the Jaguars the ball back with enough time to get into field goal range and score and gain some momentum heading into the locker room. The Bills’ curious play call, however, paled in contrast to the series of odd calls by referee Jeff Triplette’s playoff crew in Kansas City, where the Tennessee Titans overcame an 18-point halftime deficit to shock the Chiefs 22-21.“Horrible way to start the playoffs,” tweeted Mike Pereira Tarvarius Moore Jersey , the former NFL officiating chief turned Fox sports analyst. “I hate to say it, but this was not a good performance by the crew. Teams and fans deserve better.”A day later, Pereira praised both Tony Corrente’s crew in New Orleans and John Hussey’s crew in Jacksonville, adding, “Yesterday is a memory. I feel bad for Jeff Triplette. He is a great man who was part of a crew that did not have a good game. I feel bad that he is retiring under this cloud.”After Marcus Mariota caught his own deflected pass for a touchdown Saturday, Triplette explained that the Titans quarterback was an eligible receiver because he had lined up in the shotgun formation rather than under center. There is no such rule in the NFL.Whenever a defensive player deflects a pass, every offensive player is allowed to catch the ricochet, including the quarterback and it matters not where he lined up when the play began. Then, there was the very quick whistle that negated a fumble recovery by Justin Houston after fellow linebacker Derrick Johnson sacked Mariota in the second quarter.Mariota fumbled a split-second after contact, but Triplette said the QB’s forward progress had been stopped before the fumble.Forward progress is usually called when a running back is stopped and defenders are piling on him or several defenders drape a quarterback.Hardly ever is it applied when a QB is going to the ground on initial contact by a single defender. As a judgment call, Chiefs coach Andy Reid was helpless to throw his red challenge flag Randy Moss Jersey , and Ryan Succop kicked a field goal on the next play.“The defender hit him and he was driving him back,” Triplette said after the game. The officials had one more gaffe in them, one that was corrected on replay review. The crew initially called a fumble on Titans running back Derrick Henry late in the fourth quarter, signaling touchdown when Johnson scooped up the ball and rumbled into the end zone as fireworks lit up the sky.The replays showed he was down before the ball came loose. Before wild-card weekend began, there were several notable calls concerning the Cincinnati Bengals.Bills fans giddy over Buffalo ending the longest playoff drought in North American pro sports made a surge in donations to Andy Dalton’s foundation , their way of thanking the Bengals QB for his role in the Bills’ first invitation to the postseason party in 17 years.Dalton’s foundation received more than $300,000 in donations after the Bengals beat the Ravens 31-27 in the regular-season finale when Dalton threw a 49-yard TD pass with 44 seconds left to eliminate Baltimore and open a spot for Buffalo.“I think I’m the hottest guy in Buffalo right now,” Dalton said. While the Bills’ long streak of playoff futility is over, the Bengals’ streak continues. They haven’t won a playoff game since the 1990 season, the sixth-longest streak of postseason futility in NFL history. They’ve lost all seven of their playoff games since that season, including an NFL-record five straight first-round defeats from 2011-15.The Bengals missed out on the playoffs for a second straight season Jameis Winston Jersey , going 7-9. They won their last two games, knocking the Lions and Ravens out of the playoff race. That was enough for owner Mike Brown to give coach Marvin Lewis a two-year extension and two more chances to try to get the Bengals that playoff victory that has eluded him for 15 seasons.Lewis has the second-longest active coaching tenure in the NFL, behind only Bill Belichick’s 18 seasons with New England.Unlike Belichick, who has won five Super Bowls and made two other appearances in the title game, Lewis is 0-7 in the playoffs, the worst such coaching record in NFL history. In Denver, John Elway thought long and hard about canning coach Vance Joseph after a 5-11 debut but decided to stick with him. However, Joseph fired a half dozen assistants, saying it was time to change the culture “so we could get back to pushing our players to be the best that they can be.”All six of the fired coaches directed rookies who underperformed in 2017, so they’re the ones sho Devon Hall Jersey
Facing elimination at home Aaron Rodgers Jersey , the Washington Capitals looked determined to hit everything that moved in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference final.
The goal was to finish checks on Tampa Bay Lightning players as much as possible, though at one point Devante Smith-Pelly decked Dan Girardi and took teammate Jay Beagle down with him.
”I apologized to him,” Smith-Pelly said. ”I said sorry. He didn’t seem to care.”
Sorry, not sorry.
The Capitals made no apologies for taking the body and grinding out a physical 3-0 victory Monday night that tied the playoff series and set up a deciding Game 7. T.J. Oshie had a goal on the power play and into an empty net, Smith-Pelly scored a back-breaker and Braden Holtby stopped all 24 shots, but it was the bruising style that kept the Capitals alive and could still pay more dividends.
”You’ve got to wear them down,” Smith-Pelly said. ”Every game, if guys are going to be playing 25, 30 minutes, it’s tough when you’re getting hit every single shift. We’ve been on the body all game and all series. If it shows up in Game 7 where guys are starting to get tired, then it was all worth it.”
Game 7 is Wednesday night at Tampa Bay. The winner faces the Vegas Golden Knights, who are in the Stanley Cup Final in their first season.
Alex Ovechkin, Tom Wilson and Brooks Orpik led the charge in the grueling Game 6, throwing their bodies around all night like human wrecking balls. Orpik separated Cedric Paquette from the puck twice on one shift, Ovechkin leveled rookie Yanni Gourde and Wilson was his usual self Kirk Cousins Jersey , dishing out a handful of crushing body checks.
The Capitals outhit the Lightning 39-19 and outshot them 34-24, bruising and battering them all over the ice.
”It’s desperation, really,” Orpik said. ”You try to empty the tank as much as you can. That’s probably one area where we have an edge is the size and physical play.”
That edge was noticeable in Game 6 when Washington fired up an already-raucous crowd well before Oshie’s power-play goal 15:12 into the second period. While Tampa Bay goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy was again on top of his game in stopping 31 of 33 shots, Orpik said the Capitals wanted to give back to fans for their energy and did so by laying out Lightning players.
From Wilson’s big hit on Paquette on his first shift through the time Smith-Pelly scored with 9:58 left, the physical play took a toll on the Lightning, who didn’t have the energy left to muster a late comeback. Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos said simply the Capitals ”executed their game plan” and the Lightning didn’t respond.
”They played with that desperate hockey and we should have matched it and we didn’t,” winger Ryan Callahan said. ”They played like their lives were on the line, and we played like we had another chance and that’s unfortunate, but we’ve got to change the script now in Game 7.”
Tampa Bay had no answer for the physicality with a hit disparity coach Jon Cooper chalked up as, ”Somebody was engaged and somebody wasn’t.” The Lightning also couldn’t solve Holtby, who was at his best on a handful of deflection attempts to record his first shutout of these playoffs.
”I was just trying to stay in the moment, focus on one puck at a time,” Holtby said. ”I try and stay the same level through the game.”
The Lightning missed a chance to close out an opponent for the first time in these playoffs. They eliminated New Jersey and Boston in five games apiece but are now on the brink themselves.
The Capitals improved to 10-2 in the Ovechkin/Nicklas Backstrom era when facing elimination any time before Game 7. They’re 3-7 in Game 7 over that time but will obviously take their chances after grinding their way back to 3-3 in the series.
”I think it’s great that we’re close,” Oshie said. ”I think both teams for the most part figured out what works against the other team. It’s just a matter of who’s going to play longer John Miller Jersey , harder and do more of it.”
NOTES: Washington improved to 4-5 at home in the playoffs. The Lightning dropped to 5-2 on the road. … An assist on Oshie’s first goal extended Capitals C Evgeny Kuznetsov’s point streak to nine games, tied with Backstrom in 2009 for the longest in franchise playoff history. … F Andre Burakovsky returned to the Capitals lineup after being a healthy scratch for Game 5, replacing Alex Chiasson.
Matt Ryan once again worked without his favorite target Wednesday on the second day of the Atlanta Falcons' "mandatory" mini-camp, yet the quarterback said he's not worried about wide receiver Julio Jones being absent and plans to work out with him soon.
Jones appears to be seeking a contract adjustment to bump his pay grade up into the neighborhood of the NFL's top receivers. Multiple wideouts have received new contracts, leaving him ranked No. 7 at the position with a salary cap charge this season of $12.9 million.
Ryan wasn't in the mood to talk shop after practice.
"I understand that there's a business side to this sport, too, and I don't like to get involved in other people's business and I don't like speaking about my business," he said. "It's not my place to get into . . .
"He's such a incredible player, such a talented player, and he's been working hard. He's in great shape, so I think he'll pick those new things up really quickly."
The question is when?
After logging 88 receptions last season for 1,444 yards and three touchdowns, Jones, 29, was tabbed for his fifth Pro Bowl in seven seasons Antonio Gates Jersey , including four consecutive.
He has three years left, however, on the five-year, $71.256 million extension he signed in 2015, and NFL teams rarely amend contracts with so much time left.
Ryan, by contrast, recently signed a five-year, $150 million extension ahead of what would have been the final season of his previous deal.
Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff and head coach Dan Quinn have said that the team has been in contact with Jones and his agent, Jimmy Sexton.
Appeasing Jones would be tricky for reasons that go beyond giving him more money. Team officials have to be mindful of allocations.
The Falcons are about $9 million under the NFL's projected $177 million salary cap with more than $107 million of that committed to offensive players, according to Sportrac.
That 64 percent is the third-highest offensive ratio in the league. Eight of the team's 10 highest cap charges are offensive, including wide receiver Mohamed Sanu ($7.525 million).
A little more than $61 million is committed to defensive players. That 36.4 percent ranks 31st in the 32-team NFL, and the team has several talented, young defenders whose contracts are coming up.
The contracts of starting defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, safety Ricardo Allen and nickel back Bryan Poole run only through this season, and so do those of left tackle Jake Matthews Rodney Hudson Jersey , guard Andy Levitre and running back Tevin Coleman.
Linebackers Deion Jones and De'Vondre Campbell and edge rusher Vic Beasley are up next season.
Ryan's cap hit of $17.7 million this season will rise to $22.8 million next season and $31.8 million in 2020, when Jones' current contract calls for cap charges of $14.9 million and $11.426 million.
Together, the two make up more than 16 percent of the Falcons' cap charges now, and to give Julio more money might lower his charge in 2018, but the numbers would likely rise in the future.
Ryan's looking forward to working with Jones between the Falcons' minicamp, which ends Thursday, and the start of training camp in late July.
"We'll have a group of guys, probably about 12 of us, that are going to get together and he'll certainly be a part of that ... " Ryan said. "As far as drama or anything, (Jones) is one of the best teammates you could ever be around."

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed inside linebacker Jon Bostic to a two-year contract.
Details of the deal were not disclosed and it will not be finalized until after Bostic undergoes a physical on Monday.
The 26-year-old Bostic played 14 games for Indianapolis last season Matt Bosher Jersey , getting 97 tackles and one sack. Bostic injured his right knee against Denver in December and finished the season on injured reserve. Pittsburgh is Bostic’s fifth stop.
Bostic began his career with Chicago after being taken in the second round of the 2013 draft. He played two seasons in Chicago then one in New England before the Patriots traded him to Detroit in 2016. He missed the entire season in Detroit with a foot injury before joining the Colts.
The Steelers are in need of depth at inside linebacker with Ryan Shazier already ruled out for 2018 because of a spinal injury suffered in Cincinnati in December.
An immigrant who was living illegally in Indiana when he was arrested in a suspected drunken-driving crash that killed an NFL player had a history of misdemeanor convictions and arrests, including at least two previous instances of driving under the influence, authorities said Tuesday.
President Donald Trump drew added attention to Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson’s death on Twitter, calling the highway collision that killed him and another man ”disgraceful.” The president also prodded Democrats to work with him on illegal immigration and border security.
The driver believed to be responsible for Sunday’s crash on Interstate 70 in Indianapolis had been deported twice in the last decade.
Trump tweeted Tuesday: ”So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed (at)Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson. This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We must get the Dems to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!”
In a second tweet, he added, ”My prayers and best wishes are with the family of Edwin Jackson, a wonderful young man whose life was so senselessly taken. (at)Colts.”
Jackson was 26. The collision also killed his Uber driver Jason Pierre-Paul Jersey , 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe, who was not mentioned by the president. Police said both men were struck by a pickup truck driven by the suspect as they stood along I-70 after Jackson became ill.
Since the 2016 campaign, Trump has regularly pointed to crimes connected to illegal immigration as evidence that the U.S. needs to build a wall along the Mexican border and tighten immigration policies. As president, he has threatened to withhold federal funding to cities with sanctuary city policies.
A spokesman for Jackson’s family said they are devastated and planned no response to Trump’s tweets about the crash and the suspect’s immigration status.
”The family is in shock, as you can imagine. This obviously happened so unexpectedly,” Atlanta attorney Daniel Meachum said.
The man suspected of causing the collision, 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala, had a 2005 conviction for driving under the influence in Redwood City, California. He also has numerous other misdemeanor convictions and arrests in California and Indiana Deion Sanders Jersey , said Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Nicole Alberico.
In the 2005 case, he pleaded no contest to two separate drunken driving offenses and was given a brief jail sentence, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Tuesday.
Orrego-Savala remained jailed in Indianapolis but had not been formally charged in the crash. He appeared Tuesday before a judge who advised him of his rights. Indianapolis television station WRTV reported that Orrego-Savala told the judge through an interpreter: ”I wasn’t driving the car. I don’t know why I am here.”
A police news release did not mention the presence of anyone else in the pickup truck.
Orrego-Savala faces an initial court hearing Wednesday morning, prior to which a decision on formal charges in the case will be announced, said Peg McLeish, a spokeswoman for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Guatemala citizen, who gave officers a fake name when he was arrested, was deported in 2007 and 2009, police said.
A breath test administered at the crash scene found that Orrego-Savala’s blood-alcohol content was almost 0.24 percent Phil McConkey Jersey , or nearly three times Indiana’s legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to an affidavit.
Orrego-Savala had prior run-ins with law enforcement for driving without a valid license, the affidavit said.
The state trooper who discovered the wreckage shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday accidentally struck Monroe before he could stop, police said.
State Police Sgt. John Perrine said investigators believe Monroe was already dead when the trooper’s car hit him in the center lane. He said a coroner would look into his specific cause of death.
Orrego-Savala was walking away from the crash scene when the same trooper detained him.
The fatalities come about two months after a California jury acquitted a Mexican man in the fatal July 2015 shooting of a woman on a San Francisco pier – a death that touched off a fierce national immigration debate.
Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, who was acquitted of murder Nov. 30, had been deported five times and was wanted for a sixth deportation when Kate Steinle was killed. Garcia Zarate said the shooting was accidental and occurred when he picked up a gun wrapped in a T-shirt under a seat on the pier.
Steinle’s death was often cited by Trump as a reason to crack down on illegal immigration.
Jackson, who grew up in Atlanta, started eight games for the Colts during the 2016 season, finishing third on the team with 61 tackles. He was considered a possible starter at inside linebacker for 2017 but missed the season after suffering an injury during training camp.
The 6-foot Drew Kaser Jersey , 234-pound athlete previously played for the Arizona Cardinals.
Colts owner Jim Irsay has offered to pay for both Jackson and Monroe’s funerals, the team’s chief operating officer, Pete Ward, said.

Matt Ryan is eager to regain his MVP form with the Atlanta Falcons.
It sure seems possible with Julio Jones in camp Fran Tarkenton Jersey , first-round pick Calvin Ridley ready to make an impact and – perhaps most important – a full season in the books with offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.
While Ryan put up his seventh straight year with more than 4,000 yards through the air, he didn’t come close to matching the best season of his career under previous coordinator Kyle Shanahan.
In 2017, Ryan’s yardage dipped significantly (4,944 to 4,095). So did his TDs (38 to 20) and quarterback rating (117.1 to 91.4). His interceptions went up (7 to 12).
Most tellingly, the Falcons went from leading the league in scoring (33.75 points per game) to a middle-of-the-pack 15th position (22.06). Coming off an MVP season, Ryan wasn’t even in the conversation for the league’s top player.
The slide in production had some people wondering if head coach Dan Quinn would give Sarkisian another chance .
But Quinn was mindful that Shanahan’s first season in Atlanta also was a bit of a struggle. He found his groove in 2016, overseeing a dynamic offense that helped carry the Falcons all the way to the Super Bowl and earn Shanahan his first head coaching job with the San Francisco 49ers.
”I’ve got a lot of confidence,” Ryan said of Year 2 with Sarkisian. ”Obviously, I think Sark is a lot more comfortable with the personnel, knowing what guys to use in certain situations. I think that just comes with experience. We all kind of have a feel for his flavor as well. I think he did a great job for us last year and will continue to do a great job this year.”
Quinn is certainly expecting a more comfortable relationship between Ryan and Sarkisian. For good measure Tom Brady Jersey , the Falcons also hired Greg Knapp, a former Atlanta offensive coordinator, to serve as quarterbacks coach.
”Like most relationships, there’s probably some situations that you need to go through together,” Quinn said. ”OK, how did that person respond? How did he get through it? Generally as it goes, the communication improves.”
For a while, it looked as though Ryan might have to make do without one of the league’s top receivers .
Unhappy with his contract, Jones skipped offseason workouts in Atlanta as well as a mandatory minicamp. But on the eve of training camp, he agreed to report after the Falcons figured out a way to give him a bit more money this season, along with a promise to negotiate a new deal in 2019.
No one was more pleased than Ryan to have No. 11 on the receiving end of his throws.
”He’s the best teammate you could ask for,” Ryan said. ”He’s just a great worker and such a good teacher for the young guys Sony Michel Jersey , too.”
Jones is already spreading his knowledge to Ridley , who is expected to take over the third receiver role filled so ably the past two years by Taylor Gabriel.
Ryan is impressed by what he’s seen so far from the rookie.
”He’s a talented player who can do a lot of different things,” Ryan said. ”Certainly through the offseason and through the first couple of days of camp, he showcased his talent level. I kind of see him having a really good year for us and really fitting in with the receiving corps that we have.”
Ryan certainly has no complaints about his contract. He expects to remain with the Falcons for the rest of his career after signing a new five-year, $150 million deal, the most lucrative in NFL history and the first with $100 million in guaranteed earnings.
To justify all that money, Ryan is focused on being more efficient in the red zone. Far too many times last season, the Falcons settled for field goals instead of touchdowns after driving inside the 20-yard line.
In the early days of training camp, the team already looks much crisper in those situations.
”A point of emphasis for us is improving in the red area, so we can have more touchdowns than we did last year,” Ryan said. ”We’ve got a lot of work to do before the season, but it’s a good start.”
With Jones Jordy Nelson Jersey , Ridley and Mohammad Sanu catching passes, an offensive line bolstered by the signing of free-agent guard Brandon Fusco, and a dynamic backfield duo of Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, Ryan certainly has plenty of options at his disposal.
Enough to play like an MVP.
”We’ve got a really, really scary offense,” Freeman said.
Notes: The Falcons agreed to terms with OL Kendall Calhoun, LB Jonathan Celestin and WR Colby Pearson. All three players were undrafted out of college. To make room on the roster, team has waived S Jason Hall, DB Terrance Parks and FB Daniel Marx. … Quinn split up his players Monday’s practice, essentially creating two teams roughly the size of a regular-season roster, even putting offensive line coach Chris Morgan and defensive coach Jerome Henderson in charge of the squads. ”We wanted to create some game-like, stressful situations to really evaluate the players in that environment Justin Hardy Jersey ,” Quinn said.
The Latest on the canceled White House visit for the Super Bowl champion Eagles (all times local):
Eagles players and officials made individual decisions to not go to the White House for a scheduled celebration of their Super Bowl title, leaving two players actually planning to make the trip to Washington before the visit was canceled by President Donald Trump, according to players and a person familiar with the arrangements.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday because of the sensitivity of the issues.
All-Pro center Jason Kelce said players filled out forms anonymously indicating whether they wanted to go to the White House, not make the trip or go to Washington and do something else.
The players did not urge a collective decision on what to do as a team, giving each player his own option of whether to take the trip.
Defensive end Chris Long, who skipped the trip last year with the New England Patriots and wasn’t planning to go again, said he hopes athletes on championship teams in all sports won’t have to make the decision in a couple years when Trump’s term is up.
Eagles coach Doug Pederson says he was looking forward to going to the White House to be recognized as Super Bowl champions but he wouldn’t further discuss a visit that was canceled by President Donald Trump.
Pederson spoke to reporters for about eight minutes on Wednesday before the team held one of its scheduled practices and repeatedly made clear he didn’t want to discuss details of the trip’s breakdown. He declined to provide information on how things escalated to the White House accusing players of abandoning their fans by deciding to not attend.
Trump rescinded his invitation late Monday and instead turned the ceremony for the Eagles on Tuesday into his own brief ”Celebration of America” after it became clear most players weren’t going to show up. Trump tied the dispute to his criticism of players who have kneeled during the national anthem to protest racism and police brutality, even though no Eagles players kneeled for the song during the 2017 season.
Pederson says the team is united and plans to move on from the issue.

GLENDALE Richard Sherman Jersey , Ariz. (AP) — Barring unforeseen circumstances, rookie Josh Rosen will begin his first NFL season on the sidelines as Arizona’s backup quarterback.
The preseason, though, will be his chance to shine, beginning Saturday night when the Cardinals play at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.
“We want him to play quite a bit and really get into the flow of the game,” coach Steve Wilks said.
Rosen said his two weeks of training camp have “gone really well.”
“I think I’ve gotten better pretty much every day since I’ve gotten here,” the former UCLA star said before Wednesday’ practice.
Sam Bradford is Arizona’s starter but the Cardinals view Rosen as their franchise quarterback of the future. Why else would they have moved up five spots in the draft to pluck him 10th overall?
Asked for specific areas of improvement since he became a pro, Rosen cites “a bunch of things.”
“The most tangible is probably the playbook,” he said. “I feel a lot more comfortable and fluid with it at the line of scrimmage. I’m focusing more and more with what the defense is trying to do to me rather than making sure I get the right snap count and in the right protection.”
He said he’s also picking up “the little things on how to use the double-cadence to try and buy yourself time and get someone offside, just little tricks of the trade I didn’t know when I was in college.”
From the beginning Bradford and Rosen seem to have gotten along well.
“Sam’s actually really good with all those little things,” Rosen said. “He’s a crafty vet and very successful for a lot of different reasons. He might not share every reason with me, but I’ll take advantage of the ones that he does.”
Bradford said Rosen “asks the right questions.”
“He’s hungry for information,” Bradford said. “It seems like he’s always trying to learn something. It doesn’t stop in the meeting rooms. Even at the dinner table he’ll ask me.
“It’s fun to be around someone like that and to hopefully try to be able to help him. I share with him some of the experiences I’ve had Richard Sherman Jersey , some of the things I’ve learned over the years. Hopefully it can relate to him and can help him in some way.”
Wilks wouldn’t say how much Rosen will play on Saturday night but it will be long enough to do some serious evaluation.
“The mechanics of really running the offense,” Wilks said, “putting guys in the right position from a protection standpoint, going through his progression and reads and really just trying to detail the fundamentals.”
Rosen is running second on the depth chart, ahead of Mike Glennon, who also figures to play a lot Saturday.
Early in camp, Rosen said he was thinking too much.
“I think I’ve gotten a lot better since then and continue to each day,” he said. “The less thinking you can do, the more you can allow yourself to physically do what I’ve been doing since Pop Warner, and play the game I know.”
As a big-name rookie quarterback, Rosen knows his every move will be scrutinized by fans and critics.
“It’s part of the game,” he said. “I stay relatively offline for the most part. The most pressure I feel from anyone is myself. I’m very, very highly self-critical Drew Bledsoe Jersey , almost too much at times. There’s no pressure that should be greater than my own.”
There’s no changing his throwing style either, which includes an occasional sidearm toss on a bubble screen.
“It’s not just how hard or far you can throw it,” Rosen said. “It’s being able to change your arm slot and delivery. I think Aaron (Rodgers) is the best at it because sort of like mid-throw, your ability to throw sidearm to fit a quick screen in there or just kind of contort your body to get halfback screens and stuff in there.”
No one has tried to alter that style, he said.
“They drafted me for what I can do and I’m here to deliver that,” Rosen said.
He said he’s made preparation for the NFL a day-by-day process.
“Right now I’m fully in work mode,” he said. “I’m trying to be the best that I can be and over the course of my career I’m trying to win Super Bowls. And right now I’m trying to put my best foot forward in this preseason game.”
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals eliminated the Houston Astros in the 2015 postseason while on their way to winning the World Series.
The two clubs have taken different paths since.
The Astros, who are the 2017 World Series champions, bring an eight-game winning streak Friday to Kansas City for the opener of a three-game series.
On the other hand, the Royals have lost nine of 10 and are in last place in the American League Central. Only the Baltimore Orioles have a worse record than the Royals (22-46). And nobody has a worse home record than the Royals, who have lost 23 of 33 at Kauffman Stadium.
“This losing is getting old,” Royals starting pitcher Jason Hammel said.
Kansas City manager Ned Yost is trying to keep the spirits of the players uplifted during trying times.
“It’s easier when you’ve got guys where winning and competitiveness is ingrained in their character Justin Britt Jersey ,” Yost said. “You just don’t take a loser and make him a winner. Our scouting department, our player development people have drafted winners, and when things are going rough they continue to battle, they continue to fight, they continue to compete.”
There are a few leftovers from the 2015 championship club. That includes Mike Moustakas, Alex Gordon, Salvador Perez, Kelvin Herrera and Alcides Escobar.
“It’s been fun to watch our veteran guys to continue to push and support and compete their tail off every single day,” Yost said. “Dayton (Moore, general manager) says draft winners. Get the most talented kids, but draft winners. That’s number one.
“We want kids that compete, love to play. We want guys that long to get better and understand the process of getting better. That’s what we look for. These kids, 95 out of 100 Elandon Roberts Jersey , have that ingrained character trait or else they probably wouldn’t be here.”
The Astros are built for repeating. They are in a dogfight with the Seattle Mariners for first place in the AL West. The Royals are looking to 2021-22 as when they could be legitimate contenders.
In a 3-2 loss on Sunday at Oakland, Brad Keller made his third big league start. Yost used Scott Barlow, Tim Hill and Jason Adam in relief that afternoon. None of the four had ever thrown a pitch in the majors before this season.
“It’s what we have,” Yost said. “We like our young pitching.”
It is more about tomorrow than today.
“Part of this process every single day is we’re evaluating which guys are we going to move forward with,” Yost said. “We’re looking at which guys have that ability to continue to grow and get better and be part of a championship club.
“When it is all said and done, that’s what you’re looking for. You’re trying to build a championship club again. A lot of players that are going to be on the next championship club aren’t here. They’re working their way up the farm system right now.
“But we do have a pretty good little group of guys that are going to be here when that time comes. They need to continue to develop, seek consistency in their game and their command. We like what we see out of them so far.”
The Astros will start right-hander Charlie Morton, who is 7-1 with a 2.82 ERA, in the opener. He will try to become the fourth Houston starter with at least eight victories.
Morton is coming off one of the strangest no-decision lines. In his previous start against the Texas Rangers, Morton walked six and hit four batters in 3 2/3 innings but allowed only two runs (one earned).
Morton is 0-2 with a 6.17 ERA in two starts against Kansas City.
Right-hander Jakob Junis will start for the Royals. He is 5-6 with a 4.05 ERA in 13 starts. No other Kansas City starter has more than three wins. Junis has lost his last three decisions. All five of his wins have come after a Royals loss.
This will be his second career start against Houston. He got a no-decision against the Astros on June 6, 2017, although he allowed seven runs (three unearned) in 3 2/3 innings.
He is 3-4 with a 4.19 ERA in seven home starts this season.

TORONTO — The Detroit Tigers will start a former Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Saturday afternoon for the second game in a row in another attempt to end a losing streak that has reached 10 games.
Former Blue Jays left-hander Francisco Liriano could not do the job Friday night — allowing three runs in six innings — as the Blue Jays defeated the Tigers 3-2 in the opener of a four-game series at the Rogers Centre.
This time http://www.buffalobillsteamonline.com/jordan-poyer-jersey , the former Blue Jay is Matt Boyd (4-6, 4.15 ERA), who will face Toronto right-hander Sam Gaviglio (2-2, 3.98) in the second game of the series.
The Tigers (36-47), who are 13-26 on the road, have lost 10 games in a row for the first time since Sept. 13-22, 2003, the season in which they lost 119 games.
“We had some opportunities, but it’s the same story,” Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said. “You pitch really good and you don’t score, or you don’t pitch good enough and it just extends on. The guys are really trying, they’re bothered out there and they’re frustrated. They want to win, the guys are really pushing hard in the dugout, but it’s just not happening right now.”
The Tigers have lost 11 of their past 13 games in Toronto.
The Blue Jays (38-43), who were returning from a 3-4 road trip that easily could have been better, have won nine of their past 10 home games. They are 21-20 at home.
Boyd took the loss Sunday at Cleveland when he allowed six runs, eight hits and two walks while striking out five in three innings.
The start Saturday will be his 16th of the season.
In four career starts against the Blue Jays, Boyd is 0-1 with a 4.24 ERA. He did not factor in the decision June 2 against Toronto at Comerica Park when he gave up four runs, six hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out three.
Boyd, who was sent to the Tigers July 30, 2015, as part of the trade that sent David Price to the Blue Jays http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/rod-smith-jersey , is 0-3 with an 8.66 ERA in four career starts at the Rogers Centre.
Gaviglio will be making his 10th appearance and eighth start of the season.
In his past three starts, he is 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA and has pitched only 12 innings.
He has faced the Tigers once in his career, allowing two runs in five innings in a no decision.
The Tigers have been outscored 64-26 during their losing streak.
Before the game Friday, the Blue Jays selected the contract of utility player Darnell Sweeney from Triple-A Buffalo. He was batting .232 with six homers and 21 RBIs in 47 games. He has played all infield positions except first base, both corner outfield positions and also pitched a scoreless inning.
Sweeney takes the roster spot of outfielder Steve Pearce, who was traded Thursday night to the Boston Red Sox for shortstop Santiago Espinal, who will play at Class A Dunedin.
Moving Pearce means that Kendrys Morales will again see regular use as the designated hitter and breaks up a logjam in the outfield. The Blue Jays return to four outfielders with Teoscar Hernandez, Randal Grichuk, Kevin Pillar and Curtis Granderson.
Espinal, 23, batted .313 with seven homers and 32 RBIs in 65 games with Class A Salem in the Red Sox organization.
“Middle-of-the-diamond players, you can’t have enough of them,” Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said Friday. “The athleticism, that’s where it all begins. If you can play in the middle, you can often play anywhere else, so that’s first and foremost. (Espinal) is an above-average runner and performing well at a decent level, so there’s plenty to like.”
Archie Goodwin is about to set a record.
It won’t be cause for celebration.
Goodwin is a veteran of 165 NBA games, has scored 20 points on 10 occasions, and had a monthlong stretch with Phoenix two years ago when he started and averaged 16 points per game while playing against a slew of All-Stars in that span.
He thinks he’s proven.
The rest of the league doesn’t see it the same way. So he’s back in the NBA Summer League – where, after scoring six points for Portland on Saturday in the Trail Blazers’ 93-78 win over the Utah Jazz, he moved within 13 points of matching Coby Karl’s record for the Las Vegas event. Karl scored 337 points. Goodwin is up to 324, according to data compiled by RealGM.
”It comes with the job Chris Jones Jersey ,” Goodwin said. ”My world is just different. I’m just trying to stay positive and continue to fight, looking for a chance to show how I can help a team.”
Saturday was Day 2 of the Summer League in Las Vegas, with a matchup between No. 1 pick Deandre Ayton and No. 2 Marvin Bagley III headlining a 10-game schedule. More 10-game slates await on Sunday and Monday, and the tournament runs through July 17.
Most guys in Vegas are playing for the first or second time. Goodwin is playing in the event for the fifth time.
Drafted No. 29 overall by Oklahoma City in 2013, Goodwin has gotten NBA time with Phoenix, Brooklyn and New Orleans. He appeared in five preseason games with Portland last season as well, but doesn’t even have as much as a training camp deal for this fall.
”I’m a resilient person,” Goodwin said. ”That speaks to how I was raised that way, to never give up on my dreams. Hopefully the right situation pops up.”
Goodwin was one of the best guards in the G League last season, averaging 19 points on 53 percent shooting.
”I feel like I’m not getting a fair shake,” Goodwin said. ”But that’s how it is. That’s my motivation. I’m going to keep knocking at the door and hopefully someone realizes that this kid – I’m only 23 years old – can help a team and bring a lot of value to a team.”
Charlotte’s Malik Monk (fractured thumb) and Philadelphia rookie Landry Shamet (sprained right ankle) were both hurt Friday and will miss the remainder of Summer League, their teams announced. The Hornets said Monk, a second-year guard, would be re-evaluated in six to eight weeks.

Top pick Deandre Ayton scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds for Phoenix (2-0). Davon Reed added 12 points and Josh Jackson scored 10. Marvin Bagley III, the No. 2 pick, had 15 points and seven rebounds.

First-round pick Zhaire Smith had 16 points and three steals for Philadelphia (0-2). Cameron Oliver added 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Troy Williams added 17 points and Allonzo Trier, who went undrafted out of Arizona, had 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
